About Debut Books
The Tale of Zen Master Bho Li by Barbara Verkuilen is the story of an 8 year-old orphan who becomes a beloved Zen master. Meet the cast of memorable companions who assist him on his journey in learning three lessons for an awakened life. Evocative themes are deftly conveyed through endearing characters in this beautifully illustrated, winsome Zen fable.
Dokusan with Dogen: Timeless Lessons in Negotiating the Way by Barbara Verkuilen ten essays skillfully employs an aspect of Master Dogen’s teaching to clarify oftentimes misunderstood tenets of Zen philosophy, such as non-attachment, selflessness, emptiness, and requisites for authentic practice. Dokusan with Dogen blends modern scientific findings, Zen lore, and contemporary anecdotes to provide a unique formula that is entertaining and informative.
Tending the Fire: An Introspective Guide to Zen Awakening by Dale and Barbara Verkuilen is offered as a skillful means for studying the constituents of self before and after transformative experiences. The application of this model assists practitioners in learning to trust their deepest intuition, as well as the autonomous nature of the healing process. It offers an innovative skillful means called the Resolution Sequence that conveys information that assists practitioners with structuring, organizing, and understanding the process of awakening.
